Breeding  Information
We are passionate about color in horses, but we do believe horse color is to be considered only after the conformation, temperament and suitability of both parents has been considered.

We will give you the genetic color information on each stallion, but for a complete picture we recommend that you have your mare tested (hair sample). The link to UCD is on the contact page.

The dilution allele (Ccr) causes pigment to be lightened or diluted; similar to adding creme to dark coffee.  A single diluted horse is a buckskin, palomino or smoky.  A double diluted (CcrCcr) horse is a perlino, cremello or smoky cream.  A single dilute stallion may or may not dilute the foal color.  However, a double dilute stallion will always dilute foal color.

The Agouti (A) locus determines the basic color of horses with black points.  The dominant allele (A) restricts black to the points resulting in bay horses.  The recessive does not restrict and results in a uniformly black or smoky horse.

The Extension (E) locus interacts with the Agouti locus to provide the three basic horse colors. The recessive (e) results in red horses without black points such as a chestnut.  The dominant (E) allows the expression of black such a bay.
